Turn Plastic Bags Into Purpose: Join Our Plarn Mat Project
Have you ever wondered what happens to all those plastic grocery bags that pile up in your pantry? Here's your chance to transform them into something meaningful! Every Tuesday throughout April, we're hosting our Plarn Mat Project in the Youth Classroom from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
What is Plarn?
"Plarn" is exactly what it sounds like – plastic yarn! By cutting plastic bags into strips and connecting them, we create a durable material that can be woven into sleeping mats for those experiencing homelessness in our community.
Everyone Can Contribute
The beauty of this project is its simplicity. If you can flatten a plastic bag, use scissors, or do basic weaving (like making a pot holder), you already have all the skills needed to help! Our friendly volunteers will guide you through the process, and you'll be an expert "plarner" in no time.
Flexible Commitment
Drop in anytime between 9:30 am and 2:00 pm. Stay for 30 minutes or the entire session – every contribution helps! Even if you're just curious, we welcome you to come see our Plarn Loom in action and learn about the process.
Making a Real Difference
The mats we create together will be distributed this November during our church's annual sleeping bag distribution. These waterproof, insulated mats provide crucial protection from cold, wet ground for people without shelter.
Join Our Community Effort
This project isn't just about helping others—it's also about connecting with neighbors, learning new skills, and enjoying meaningful conversation while creating something beautiful from what would otherwise be waste.
Bring your friends, bring your lunch, and most importantly, bring your enthusiasm! We look forward to "plarning" with you this April!
