Community Policing and Educational Event

This one-day event is an educational and informational opportunity that focuses on breaking down the barriers of ideology and misinformation to rebuild the network of trust between law enforcement and our communities.

This cooperative effort between the Sheriff’s Office, the Community Foundation, Independence Township, the Clarkston United Methodist Church, and the citizens of Oakland County will enhance awareness, dispel myths, and set the foundation for mutual understanding of law enforcement operations and community expectations.

The event will consist of, introduction of speakers, a panel discussion on de-escalation and mental health crisis response, refreshments, resource tables, recruiting tables, opportunities to engage in law enforcement simulation training, driver’s simulator, and networking.

The event will be held on November 23 2024. Participants are not required to register. The event will end at 3 pm. There is no cost associated with attendance for the participant.

  • 0900 Open Doors – Sign In
  • 0930 – 1000 Welcome Introduction / Speaker from OCSO and municipality representatives.
  • 1000 – 1145 Panel Discussion / Town Hall
  • Topics currently planned for this event are De-escalation and Mental Health Crisis Response.
  • 1145 – 1230 Lunch Break
  • 1230 – 1500 Community Engagement Events: Vehicles, Recruiting, Resources, Virtual Scenarios and Driving Simulator.
