Mercy threads

Mercy Threads is an ongoing missions project for anyone who likes to sew or knit.  Patterns are available at the church for cover-them-with love quilts, cheerful hospital gowns, knitted sweaters and school bags. The finished items are sent to MMDC which distributes them throughout the world.  The photo displays a recent shipment.

Cover-them-with-love quilts are easy one step quilts with no batting. They are quite lightweigh, often given to children and their parents in very warm countries.

Knitted sweaters are added to layette kits for new mothers’ babies throughout the world. In response to the recent Haiti earthquake, MMDC sent over 200 layette kits and plans to send more.

Cheerful hospital gowns are sewn from an easy available pattern.  Colorful fabric is used because children take the outfits home after their hospital stay and use them for play outfits.  After the Haiti earthquake MMDC sent 2,655 gowns to Haiti, with plans to ship more.

School bags are made of durable fabric and filled with school supplies.  They are sent to developing countries and Native American reservations.
