The mission of Clarkston Kids at CUMC is to help children connect their lives to God through Jesus Christ and grow in Christian faith in a safe and nurturing environment by: Developing their spiritual habits such as prayer, service to others, and regular attendance at Sunday school and worship; Teaching them scripture, biblical stories, music and the rituals of faith; Providing them with mission opportunities so that they may become faithful disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We want children to love Sunday school, and regular attendance is a first step in learning the basics of our faith. Leaders in our programs are dedicated volunteers who have answered the call to teach the message of God’s love to the children. But they cannot do the task alone. Parents play a vital role in the religious education of their children. We encourage parents to get involved in our Children’s programs—as teachers, as helpers, and by sharing their special talents, as well as time.
Preschool through the 5th grade are taught using Cokesbury’s Deep Blue Learn and Serve curriculum. The curriculum teaches kids about God and what if means to be follower of Jesus through Bible stories and opportunities to serve as disciples in the classroom and local community. Each weekly bible story and lesson has numerous “hands-on” activities to reinforce the lesson. These activities include Bible verses, games, art, science, worship, prayer and fun! Children will connect with God and each other on the start of a lifelong faith journey. Your kids will love it!
Children are grouped by age for our Sunday school programs. Parents are asked to sign all children into children’s church where they will begin and end each Sunday school hour. Children are divided by age: Pre School Room 204.(Please note children must be 3 by September 1st and FULLY POTTY TRAINED—no exceptions), Lower Elementary K-2nd Room 207 and Upper Elementary 3rd -5th grade in Room #206; Upper Elementary are served a breakfast snack every Sunday . Each Sunday School hour will end with the children gathering for Children’s church, approximately the last 15 minutes, where lessons focus on character traits such as wisdom, loving and kindness.
We welcome children in our worship services. Children need to experience worship with us so that they learn how to become part of the community of faith. For children who attend worship in the sanctuary with their parents instead of going to Sunday school and are not quite old enough to follow along, special “activity bags” and books are available in the Narthex.
